ANTLERS, OK – The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) and the Choctaw Development Fund (CDF) recently awarded Pushmataha County with $82,711 that will be used to match county funds to purchase and install a security control locking system for the Pushmataha County Jail.
In 2016, the Oklahoma State Department of Health issued a notice of violation to Pushmataha County Jail and the county has been working to address the violations noted in the notice.
“Pushmataha County Jail has a long history of issues, and in recent months, we have spent countless in-house man hours and county funds making updates to be up to state code,” said Michael Brittingham, Pushmataha County Commissioner. “We are grateful to the Choctaw Nation for this donation as it will help us with numerous issues stated in the violation.”
The CDF supports economic viability and sustainability by partnering with Choctaw small business owners, cities and municipalities to create long-term growth and job creation within the territories of CNO.
“We are honored to partner with Pushmataha County Jail,” said Joey Tom, Choctaw Nation Tribal Council Member District 7. “Upgrading the jail is about more than just safety, it’s about proving an environment that will influence positive change. These funds will be put to great use as they will not only assist the men and women that work here, but also for the people that are housed in this facility.”
