IGA-NCAI Task Force To Be Reactivated

National Press Building

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Indian Gaming Association (IGA) will host a press conference with the Indian Gaming Association and the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) to announce the reactivation of the IGA-NCAI Task Force. The press conference will be held on Wednesday, May 10 at 1:00pm at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Tribal leaders from around the country have requested the reactivation of the Task Force in direct response to the emergent threats endangering tribal sovereignty and tribal treaty rights. From adverse Supreme Court decisions to climate change, Indian Country is facing a myriad of challenges negatively impacting tribal sovereignty, tribal jurisdiction, economic self-sufficiency, women’s health, and the protection of our precious children, among many others.

The Task Force will hold its first official meeting at the NCAI Mid-Year Convention & Marketplace in Prior Lake, MN, on June 4-8, 2023. The Task Force will develop strategies to counter the Supreme Court’s unprecedented decisions attacking tribal sovereignty and to identify opportunities for tribal governments to continue asserting their inherent sovereign rights over their lands, jurisdictions, and tribal citizens.
