PORTERVILLE, CA – Eagle Mountain Casino recently donated $15,000 to the Kern County Honor Flight. The Honor Flight Network was created in 2005 to honor the nation’s veterans by bringing them to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials built to commemorate their service and sacrifice.
“This is a huge donation that literally takes us over the top for a full sponsor of our very first Native American honor flight,” said Lili Marsh, Executive Director of the Kern County Honor Flight.
The Native American honor flight is only the third honor flight dedicated to Native Americans in the country. 35 Native American veterans attended the flight along with select guardians. The Native American Honor Flight visited the memorials for each branch of military service, and they had the distinct honor of laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.
Former House Speaker and Congressman Kevin McCarthy invited the Native American veterans as special guests inside the United States Capitol Building and provided a tour of the House floor. McCarthy also invited other Native American legislators to join them and meet the honorary Native American veterans.
“We just cannot thank Eagle Mountain Casino enough for their dedication and contributions in making this incredible trip possible,” said Marsh.
Transporting approximately 22,000 veterans annually, Honor Flight Network has flown nearly 275,000 veterans to Washington, D.C. since its inception.
