TUCSON, AZ – On December 12th, Casino Del Sol held a ceremony to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Sewailo Golf Club.
“The 10th anniversary of Sewailo Golf Club signifies our dedication to maintaining a golf course that is both one of a kind and an inclusive experience for golfers of every skill level,” said Cesar Balganon, PGA Associate Assistant General Manager of Sewailo Golf Club. “I am proud of the course, the staff who maintain it and the opportunities it’s been able to provide for so many individuals.”
Sewailo is universally recognized as one of the top golf experiences in Arizona, public or private, and has received awards including Golf Advisor and Golf Digest’s Top Courses in Arizona, Golf Week’s Best Courses You Can Play in Arizona and Golf Magazine’s Best Public Courses.
The Pascua Yaqui Tribe hired Notah Begay III and Ty Butler to design Sewailo Golf Club in 2013. Begay is a tribal member of the Navajo Nation who made his name both as a player on the PGA Tour and as a commentator on NBC and The Golf Channel.
Sewailo Golf Club is the former home course for the University of Arizona men’s and women’s golf teams and hosts events year-round including the LPGA Epson Tour, the PGA Hope program for veterans, the PGA Junior League and charity, and Pascua Yaqui Tribal Recognition tournaments. In October, the Casino Del Sol Charity Golf Tournament raised a record total of $50,000 for two non-profits, Gospel Rescue Mission and I Am You 360. To date, Casino Del Sol has raised $300,000 for local non-profits through its charity tournaments.
The course features an extensive driving range and practice areas for chipping, bunker play and putting. Each hole was designed to bring the natural desert landscape of Tucson into play. Sewailo measures over 7,400 yards from the championship tees, with five different tee boxes on each hole to allow for players of all abilities.
“This milestone reaffirms our commitment to providing an exceptional, world-class golfing experience for enthusiasts and visitors alike,” said Kimberly Van Amburg, Chief Executive Officer of Casino Del Sol.
