AKWESASNE, NY – The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal (SRMT) Police have been awarded a $857,657 grant from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) as part of the Law Enforcement Technology (LETECH) grant program.
This funding is part of a larger initiative announced by Governor Kathy Hochul, totaling $127 million, which will be distributed among the 378 law enforcement agencies that applied across New York State.
This grant will enable the tribal police to modernize their operations and enhance their ability to effectively solve and prevent crime. The funds will be used to purchase state-of-the-art technology and equipment, inclusive of but not limited to:
- License plate readers
- Mobile and fixed surveillance cameras
- Computer-aided dispatch systems
- Advanced software solutions
- Unmanned aerial vehicles (drones)
- Gunshot detection devices
- Smart equipment for patrol vehicles and police officers
