CORNING, CA – The Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians celebrated a historic milestone with the successful completion of their first-ever Big Time Event at the Equestrian Center at the Rolling Hills Casino & Resort. The daylong event served as a testament to the tribe’s commitment to preserving and sharing its rich cultural heritage.
Attendees were immersed in the traditions and customs of the Paskenta Tribe through ceremonial dances, vibrant displays of traditional regalia, and the rhythmic pulse of traditional music. The event offered an array of experiences, including traditional dances and ceremonies, unique native jewelry, information booths from local organizations and non-profits, a variety of delicious food, and a performance from special guest Eric Michael Hernandez, a renowned Native American hoop dancer and storyteller from the Lumbee Tribe.
“This inaugural Big Time Event was a resounding success, filling our hearts with immense pride,” said Tribal Chairman Andrew “Dru” Alejandre. “This marks a historic moment for my people and pays respects to our ancestors. I know they’re proud of how we are honoring and sharing our heritage. It was moving to witness the community come together to celebrate our tribe’s culture and traditions and build bridges of understanding.”
The Big Time Event served as a way for the Paskenta Tribe to remember who they are as California Indian people, reminding members of their historical traditions that will live on forever. The event provides a purpose to gather with other nations and showcase the strength of the Paskenta Tribe’s ancestors that have been passed down through many generations. The Paskenta Nomlaki Band of Indians believes this will remain one of the many ways they will continue to build and revitalize their way of life and, more importantly, share with their community with those in the region.
