COARSEGOLD, CA – The Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians has announced, by Proclamation, October 22 as “Chukchansi Day,” a newly designated tribal holiday. The important day will be observed annually to celebrate and preserve the cultural heritage, traditions, and self-governance of the Chukchansi people.
The Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians, a federally recognized sovereign nation, has a long history rooted in the principles of self-governance and cultural preservation. The tribal constitution, ratified on October 22, 1988, empowers the tribal council to enact measures that safeguard the welfare of the tribe; protect its property; and preserve its arts, crafts, language, and ceremonies. The establishment of Chukchansi Day reflects these principles and a commitment to ensuring that future generations remain connected to their heritage.
“Chukchansi Day will serve as a time for all of us to come together and celebrate our shared history, culture, and the enduring spirit of our people,” said Tracey Hopkins, Chairwoman of the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians. “This day is not only a recognition of our past, but also a dedication to our future, as we continue to honor our traditions and the values that have guided us for generations.”
