TISHOMINGO, OK – Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby delivered the State of the Nation Address on October 5, emphasizing the strength and growth of the Chickasaw Nation. Speaking at Aiitafama’ Ishto on the historic Capitol grounds, he honored the legacy of past Chickasaws and highlighted the Nation’s ongoing progress in business, economic development, healthcare, and education.
“The state of the Chickasaw Nation is strong,” said Governor Anoatubby. “We work toward a vision of our future. A future with continued progress, continued opportunities, and continued unity. A future that will grow brighter because of the perseverance and commitment of the Chickasaw people. We will continue to carry on the fire of our ancestors and preserve those flames to light the way for generations to come.”
Governor Anoatubby noted that the Chickasaw Nation operates over 100 businesses across various industries, directly employing more than 14,500 workers. Recent developments include the opening of Lakecrest Hotel and Casino near Ardmore, OK, expected to generate significant economic impact, and the upcoming OKANA Resort in Oklahoma City, set to open in 2025.
In healthcare, the Nation plans to build a new medical center in Newcastle, OK, offering specialty services and research opportunities. Investments in infrastructure, including bridge and road projects and a new parking garage at the Capitol grounds, further support the community’s growth.
Governor Anoatubby emphasized, “The greatest investments of all, without hesitation or doubt, are the investments we make in the Chickasaw people. Ultimately, that is what our economy is designed to do.”
The Chickasaw Nation also underscored its commitment to education, awarding $32.1 million in grants and scholarships to students this year. Additionally, the Chickasaw Nation STEM Academy and new Child Development Centers are underway, enhancing educational resources for its people.
Governor Anoatubby highlighted the success of the Packed Promise program, which continues to meet the nutritional needs of Chickasaw children. The Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Department marked its 20th anniversary, reflecting its expanded role in community safety.
Environmental stewardship remains a priority, with significant strides in water management through the Water Unity Agreement and broadband expansion to improve rural connectivity. The Chickasaw Cultural Center celebrates its 20th year, and a new Chickasaw Heritage Center is under construction in Tupelo, MS.
Governor Anoatubby closed his address by urging the Chickasaw people to continue the work of their ancestors, ensuring a united and thriving Nation for future generations. “Each of you are part of the progress and promise of the great unconquered and unconquerable Chickasaw Nation. This Nation is united and it’s thriving because of the perseverance of our people.”
