LIBERTY LAKE, WA – David Orrick, a public relations and media specialist who worked extensively in the international gaming industry, passed away on September 13, 2024, at the age of 75.
Orrick began his gaming career in 1995, initially as a journalist editing the trade publication EuroSlot. He later transitioned into roles in public and media relations with numerous leading gaming brands, including Recreativos Franco, Unidesa, Novomatic, and most recently, Merkur Gaming. Over the years, he established himself as a formidable personality within the industry, known for his deep knowledge and respected insights.
In 2016, David joined the Merkur Group, where he served as Director of Industry Relations for the Merkur Gaming division until 2023. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in the continuous growth and success of the company.
“It was always so great meeting with David at industry events in the U.K. and across the U.S.,” said Steve Burke, Publisher of Indian Gaming Magazine & Digital. “He had a way with words and people, and could speak extensively on the complexities of gaming and then just as easily regale us with wonderful stories and insights from his rich and dynamic life. Time spent with David was memorable, illuminating, and often accompanied by much humor and laughter.”
Orrick was not only respected for his professional accomplishments but also for his ‘English wit.’ His ability to forge meaningful relationships within the industry made him a beloved colleague and friend to many. His dedication to the gaming sector was evident in his numerous contributions, which earned him prestigious awards, including the Jimmy Thomas Outstanding Contribution Award.

Orrick leaves behind a legacy of dedication and excellence in the gaming industry. He will be deeply missed by his colleagues, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
