CUSICK, WA – Kalispel Casino is commemorating its fifth anniversary, a significant achievement that highlights the casino’s role as a hub of entertainment and employment. The milestone also reflects the Kalispel Tribe’s dedication to philanthropy and engagement with the community.
Since opening its doors in April 2019, Kalispel Casino has seen remarkable growth. From its initial offering of 120 slots, the casino now features 161 slots, along with an expanded gaming floor that reaches nearly 5,000 sq. ft. The variety of gaming options has grown to 59 titles, two pool tables, and a shuffleboard table, catering to a diverse audience.
“Decades ago, our elders set aside this property for economic development,” said Curt Holmes, Executive Director of Kalispel Casino and Governmental Affairs. “In the 1970’s, we opened our first business near to where the casino stands. It was called Sntumi (sin-too-me) in our Salish language meaning a ‘place where you buy.’ Kalispel Casino is a continuation of our elders’ vision for economic development and self-sufficiency here on our home reservation, and it’s become so much more than that. Now when you walk in, you see your friends and neighbors. It’s a gathering place where people come to have fun in Pend Oreille County.”
Kalispel Casino is celebrating its official anniversary on Friday, April 12, and Camas Rewards members can recieve 50 cents off per gallon of fuel at all Kalispel-owned Chevron stations and participate in ‘anniversary hot seats.’ Later in the month, Camas Rewards members can play in the casino’s largest giveaway to date with the $5,000 a day giveaway running from April 22-26.
A Catalyst for Employment, Economic Growth and Philanthropy
When Kalispel Casino opened its doors in April 2019, it became a significant part of the economy in Pend Oreille County employing 64 people with competitive wages and benefits. Since the casino opened, the Kalispel Tribe has donated approximately $1 million to organizations in Pend Oreille and Bonner Counties. These donations have benefited local food banks, schools, healthcare programs, cultural programs, recreational organizations, and American Legion units, demonstrating the tribe’s and casino’s strong commitment to supporting the community.
A Legacy of Entertainment and Engagement
Kalispel Casino’s diverse entertainment offerings and the significant jackpots paid out – totaling over $4,575,442 in 2023 – demonstrate its appeal to a broad demographic, including guests from Newport, Cusick, Spokane, neighboring cities, and international visitors from Canada. The widespread appeal is a testament to the casino’s success in creating a welcoming and engaging atmosphere, establishing the business as an integral part of the community.
