BANNING, CA – The Banning Chamber of Commerce has honored Morongo tribal historian and cultural advisor Ernest Siva with a Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating his lifelong dedication to preserving and sharing Native American culture, history, and language. A revered member of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, Siva is a respected cultural leader, historian and musician who has devoted his life to documenting and revitalizing the traditions of Southern California tribes, particularly those of the Cahuilla and Serrano peoples.

As the Co-Founder and President of the Dorothy Ramon Learning Center in Banning, he and his wife June have worked to ensure that Native languages, songs, and stories are passed down to future generations. His efforts have been instrumental in keeping these traditions alive and accessible to both Native and non-Native communities.

“This recognition is truly humbling and I deeply appreciate this honor,” said Siva. “Saving and sharing our history and language has always been my passion, and I am deeply grateful for the support of our community in carrying this important work forward.”

The Banning Chamber of Commerce praised Siva’s contributions, emphasizing the lasting impact of his work.

“Ernest Siva’s lifelong commitment to cultural preservation has enriched not just the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, but the entire region,” said Banning Chamber President Oleg Ivaschuk. “His work is an inspiration, and we are proud to recognize his legacy with this well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award.”

The award was presented at the Chamber’s annual installation gala at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa, where community members, tribal leaders, and local officials gathered to celebrate Siva’s many contributions.
