OKMULGEE, OK – The College of the Muscogee Nation (CMN) will host the first annual “Growing Power: A Climate, Nutrition & Food Sovereignty Summit,” taking place November 7-8, 2024. The groundbreaking event will bring together Indigenous leaders, agricultural experts, and climate activists from across the state to address critical issues affecting Indian Country, including climate change, food security, and nutrition.
The two-day summit will feature a packed agenda of engaging presentations, roundtable discussions, and networking opportunities. It aims to empower participants to confront pressing challenges in food sovereignty, climate resilience, and economic empowerment in their communities.
Over the two-day period, participants will explore topics such as the history of Indigenous corn varieties, the role of pollinators in sustaining Indigenous food systems, and the benefits of living off the grid. Additional sessions will focus on the future of GMOs, using the Oklahoma Mesonet for agriculture, obesity/diabetes prevention, climate change, and the protection of water resources in Indian Country. With experts and advocates from various fields, this summit is a unique opportunity to learn, connect, and take action on crucial issues affecting the future of our communities.
