CROWNPOINT, NM – The 25th Navajo Nation Council celebrated the inauguration of newly elected leaders for Eastern Agency Chapters, which took place at Navajo Technical University.
The event marked a significant moment for local leadership as Navajo Nation President Dr. Buu Nygren, Vice President Richelle Montoya, and other guests gathered to honor the chapter officials, school board members, and council representatives who will lead their communities into a new era of progress and self-determination.
Council Delegates Steven Arviso, Norman M. Begay, Lester Yazzie, Arbin Mitchell, and Speaker Crystalyne Curley represented the Navajo Nation Council at the ceremony, offering their support to the incoming leadership and pledging to work collaboratively with chapter officials to advance the needs and priorities of the Eastern Agency.
Speaker Curley delivered an address, highlighting the critical role of chapter officials in shaping the future of the Navajo Nation. In her remarks, she emphasized the value of leadership rooted in courage, intelligence, and compassion.
“As leaders, we are called to serve with strength and integrity,” said Speaker Curley. “We must be courageous in our decisions, intelligent in our strategies, and compassionate toward the communities we serve. Our leadership reflects the resilience and brilliance of our ancestors, and it is our duty to carry that forward for future generations.”
The ceremony included remarks from local leaders, cultural blessings, and a call for cooperation between chapter officials, school boards, and the Navajo Nation Council. The event highlighted the importance of effective governance and community-driven leadership to address key issues such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, public safety and economic development.
