DURANT, OK – A new exhibit at the Choctaw Cultural Center offers a look at cultural preservation through the works of Choctaw artist Kristin Gentry. “Akshish Hlampko Chahta Ohoyo I Shilombish Kamvssa” or “Resilient Roots: The Unyielding Spirit of the Choctaw Woman” is open to the public now through April 17, 2025.

The Oklahoma City-based artist presents over 20 original works including watercolor paintings, clothing and jewelry. Each piece reflects the Choctaw people’s adaptation and survival during the Trail of Tears period. Gentry’s designs parallel the traditional seeds carried by Choctaw ancestors from their native lands and replanted in their new home.

“Resilient Roots” demonstrates Gentry’s signature approach to reimagining nature, moving beyond realism with bold, original colors and shapes. Gentry, an award-winning artist, has previously completed commissions for Starbucks International, Paramount+, and the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.

The exhibit is included with regular admission to the Choctaw Cultural Center in Durant, OK. Complimentary admission is offered for Choctaw tribal members and cultural center members.
