TEMECULA, CA – Hair donors from all over California came to Spa Pechanga and each chopped eight or more inches of their hair in October. In the spirit of giving, they knew their donations would go toward helping someone battling cancer look and feel a little more like themselves. In all, 94 donors gave up 80 feet of hair. All ponytails were donated through Spa Pechanga’s 2022 Mane Campaign to the Hair We Share organization. Eighty feet equals approximately the height of the White House, 10 surfboards, 20 park benches or the height of four giraffes.
The Mane Campaign at Pechanga encourages men, women and children with long hair to cut and donate it to the Hair We Share organization. Hair We Share makes the hair into wigs that are given free of charge to those suffering hair loss as a result of a medical condition. Pechanga also gifted funds to help Hair We Share with the expenses associated with making the wigs. To bring the campaign full circle, the hair donated through Pechanga’s Mane Campaign will be made into wigs that get sent to Michelle’s Place and other cancer resource centers across Southern California. That way, those battling cancer in the Southland will benefit from the wigs made from the locally donated hair.
Hair donors receive a free haircut and style in return for their gift. This year, Pechanga teamed up with Paul Mitchell The School in Temecula, Smith Salon and 11:11 Salon. Paul Mitchell students and stylists from Smith Salon provided the donation cuts. Smith and 11:11 salons provided the free haircuts and styles to shape the donors’ ‘dos into what best suited them.
This year, Pechanga also took the Mane Campaign on the road to SoFi Stadium for donation cuts ahead of both Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers games. The donors scored with a free haircut and style, and received tickets to one game. Hair We Share also got the ‘W’ with 24 hair donations passed to them as a result of the football cuts.
This was the eighth year Spa Pechanga has hosted the Mane Campaign. For more than a decade, Pechanga Resort Casino has been a major supporter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation in its region.
